1 IN 3 WOMEN

will face anxiety or depression

“I’m fine”, two simple words, that can hide the truth. The reality is, 80% of women[2] have already said it — even when they weren't. Because as women, we're taught to be strong, to hold it, to minimize it. Across every culture and stage of life, women face unique gender-based pressures that silently impact their mental well-being. And too often, the weight stays hidden behind those two small words. Today, we're opening the space behind "I'm fine" — a space to check in, speak up, and find help. Because if we can reach what lies behind "I'm fine"? That's where the conversation begins.

At Lancôme, we believe that optimism is a choice—a conscious and courageous choice to see life on the positive side, especially for women facing so many pressures. But women cannot truly thrive when their mental well-being is at risk. With ADAA and a network of non-profits, we’re raising awareness and promoting prevention to support women to recognize early signs of anxiety and depression.

Taking this brief self-assessment can truly make a difference towards better mental health.

About The “I’M FINE” program

Around 1 in 3 women will face an anxiety or depressive disorder in their lifetime. That’s why Lancôme partnered with ADAA (Anxiety and Depression Association of America) and local non-profit organizations to develop “I’M FINE” — a program providing scientifically validated self-assessments (GAD-7 and PHQ-8), expert-guided resources, and community building to make women’s mental health a priority. Together, we’re raising awareness and promoting prevention to support women to recognize early signs of anxiety and depression.

At Lancôme, we believe that beauty is not only about how we look, but also how we feel and how we lift each other up. In a world where women face increasing pressures, we believe that optimism is a choice — a conscious and courageous choice to see life on the positive side. Yet we know that optimism can be harder to reach when mental health is overlooked. And the numbers speak for themselves: according to ADAA, around 1 in 3 women will face an anxiety or depressive disorder in their lifetime. Across cultures and life stages, women navigate gender-based pressures that impact their mental well-being — juggling work, family while going through physiological changes. As a result, anxiety and depression, two of the most common mental health disorders, affect women twice as much as men. That’s why, in partnership with ADAA and local non-profit partners, we developed “I’M FINE” — to champion women to recognize early signs.

The GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) and PHQ-8 (Patient Health Questionnaire-8) are internationally recognized mental health screening tools, developed by healthcare professionals over two decades ago. Scientifically validated and available in multiple languages, these questionnaires are designed to measure the severity and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Their strength lies in their simplicity: short, easy to use, and underpinned by robust evidence.

While these tools cannot replace a professional diagnosis, they offer valuable insights into your mental well-being and whether it might be worth seeking further support from a licensed professional.

You can take the self-assessments as often as you feel the need to check in on your mental health. That said, here are a few general recommendations:

- Check in periodically: It’s a good idea to assess your emotional well-being, just as you would monitor your physical health. Keep in mind that the only way to receive a comprehensive diagnosis is to speak with a healthcare professional.

- If your scores are consistently in the moderate to severe range, or if you notice a significant increase: we recommend consulting a healthcare professional. A doctor, psychiatrist or psychologist can guide you toward the appropriate next steps.

If you find yourself testing very frequently or feeling increasingly distressed: it may be a sign that you need additional support — regardless of your score. Reaching out to a professional is always the right move.
